This is a very important news for facebook account holders.
Starting tonight at Midnight Eastern US TIME 12:01 a.m. (EDT) on Saturday, June 13, 2009, you will be able to select a username of your choice or create one at http://www.facebook.com/username.
Before now we are all use to the long facebook profile url http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=586833552&ref=profile
Would you not rather have something very short and concise like this:
http://www.facebook.com/username Well you have to act fast and make sure to stay on your facebook account at midnight today US time 12.01 a.m to effect these changes.
Another important issue here is that for you to secure a unique username for your facebook profile, it is on first come first serve basis. However, facebook will help users avoid potential disputes relating to intellectual property rights. So in order to do so, facebook is encouraging right owners to contact them to reserve/protect certain usernames. For third parties who had already contacted facebook to reserve a usename protected by intellectual property rights, those usernames would not be available for use.
What To Do At Midnight
Tonight at midnight US Eastern time, login to your Facebook account then go to http://www.facebook.com/username
You will see a form that will display several suggested usernames, and the ability to be creative choosing your own. Either choose one of the names suggested or type in your own. Make sure to create a keyword based username for your profile or something that represents your identity.
I hope this helps! I will definitely log into my account tonight to effect this very important change and i encourage you to skip your sleep for that hour, log into your account too and apply this all important change.
See you at the top!
